How to calculate your hourly wage
Hourly wage is calculated by dividing the monthly salary by the monthly working hours:
Hourly wage = Monthly salary Γ· (Weekly hours Γ 52 Γ· 12)
For example, with a gross monthly salary of β¬3,200 and 37.5 h weekly working hours, the hourly wage is approximately β¬19.69/h.

Gross or net?
The calculator works with both gross and net salary. Gross salary is the salary before taxes and side costs. Net salary is the take-home amount. When comparing salaries, e.g. in job search, always use gross salary β that's the figure stated in job advertisements and employment contracts.
When is knowing your hourly wage useful?
- In salary negotiations β easier to compare different offers when you know the real hourly rate
- Checking overtime compensation β overtime pay is calculated based on hourly wage (50% or 100% increase)
- Freelancer pricing β if you switch from salaried work to entrepreneurship, your hourly wage gives a basis for pricing (remember to add side costs on top)
